View Full Version : cleaning ps3
i leave my ps3 on all the time. and the amount of dust that piles up on it and shit im getting a little worried that dust or dirt my scratch the lens or whatever. i just cleaned the vents and holes and the cd drive with air in a can but what else can i do to one- to help keep dust off of it and 2- to clean the outside without worrying some liquid or chemicals my hurt it. b/c this thing was caked in dust. and is it really bad to leave it on for days at a time? or is it like pc's where its better to leave it on b/c turning them on and off all the time is bad for the wires and shit b/c of how they get worn down so fast b/c they are cooling off and then heating up.

Generally I would say keep it off when not using. Make sure you clean the dust off the vents with a vacuum and your set. Remember that the number one killer for electronics is heat. Make sure the ps3 is well ventilated.
its well ventilated but i dont have a vaccum with a hose. so air in a can is all i can do for now. but i heard its almost impossible for a ps3 to overheat. supposedly it has like an eleven pound heat sink in it and then im sure the story we all have heard about the ppl keeping a ps3 between two matresses in it for like five days and it worked just fine. something like that. im more worried that dust or dirt my scratch the lens and whatever

pour water on it to get the dust off.

i wouldn't use air in a can. Your pushing the dust into the ps3 which the dust will cling on the motherboard, heat sink, and processor.

he already fucked it up by doing it in the first place...1 - it is left on all day everyday...2 - he use the air can already...3 - the ps3 is in xfazed hands...so his ps3 will soon perish...sorry buddy
leaving the ps3 on all the time does not matter. i looked this shit up. as long as you keep the ps3 well ventilated the ps3 can be left on forever and will be fine. also i called sony about cleaning issues and they actually recommended the canned air. and they said that the vaccum thing actually was very dangerous the suction could cause certain parts to come lose because its so much more powerful. and that as long as you use the air once every week or two then it will be fine. so fuck you and thank you.

So no one wants to answer way to help each other out assholes a bunch of assholes in here
oh sorry i didnt realize you posted in here. umm... i dont know anything about it. i have heard ppl say they took their ps3 apart to clean the laser lens thing or whatever and it started working better again. but thats a risk you are gonna have to decide on your own. if you have a warranty then by you taking it apart it voids it, but there are electronics repair businesses that do that stuff. most you might have to miss it is half a day to a full day. thats all i can think of
or call sony
