Over the weekend, complaints began rolling in from PlayStation 3 fans trying to get some online time in COD4, including long matchmaking waits and the dreaded "Downloading Game Settings" message that was such a common complaint during the Xbox 360 beta in September. Infinity Ward's community manager fourzerotwo (aka Robert Bowling) addressed the issues on their forums today, saying upgrades to the servers and dedicated databases for individual online functions should fix the complaints.
"The server team has been working on this all weekend, and will be working through the night. They're upgrading all server hardware as well as dedicated an individual database to each functionality to improve performance and handle the traffic hitting the servers. (i.e. Database for Matchmaking, Database for Leaderboards, etc.)," Bowling wrote.
Unfortunately, while the upgrades are being done he cautioned players may still receive the Downloading Game Settings message. "Remember, this is just short term; eventually once everything is upgraded you won't be receiving Downloading Game Settings at all," he wrote. "However, if you do, just wait it out and you will be dropped into a lobby." Considering how prevalent the "DGS" issue was during the 360 beta, it's unfortunate to see it being such a problem in the retail release. But, as with so many things in life, you just need a little patience -- things should be fixed soon enough.
