Metriod Prime 2: Echoes offline multiplayer mode may not have compared favorably to that of most console shooters, but after the improved Wi-Fi play in Metriod Prime Hunters on the DS, some may have expected Nintendo to bring a similar mode to the Wii release of Metriod Prime 3: Corruption.
Sadly, it's not meant to be. Developer Retro Studios confirmed to GamePro (http://gamepro.com/nintendo/wii/games/features/119708.shtml) in a recent interview that Corruption will be focused solely on the single-player campaign. When asked if the game would feature any online play modes, Retro Studios President and CEO Michael Kelbaugh replied:
"No. It's something we talked about early on, but we only have so many resources. We opted to devote those resources to making a better single-player experience."
With the first online game for Wii (Pokemon Battle Revolution) just recently hitting stores, it may not be terribly surprising that the next big release joins the vast majority of Wii titles without Wi-Fi play. However, with all the delays, some may have been expecting a little something extra from Corruption. After a slight date revision, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is now slated to ship on August 27th

Personally, I'm glad they've only been focusing on the single player aspect of the game. That's where the fun is. Metroid Prime: Hunters is a surprisingly good online game, I just wish they could have done better on the single player part. Besides, I don't want them to have any excuse to hold it back anymore. I want the game now!
