View Full Version : In Game XMB= Socom Cheating?

I just downloaded firmware 2.4 and I was messing with the in-game xmb feature where I can message anyone on my friends list while playing a game. It got me thinking, what if I was in a foxhunt right now. What if Slowfoo and I were charging the left side of the terrorist hill and Slowfoo gets sniped out. Then since Slowfoo is dead now, he hits the ps button on the controller and types a message to me saying "The guy is on the right side of the bridge". Now I know where the bad guys are and can easy maneuver to get the kill.

I'm not one for cheating but I don't want the other team pulling this on me. Aim was a pretty big issue back in the day. I know alot of clans would communicate through a instant messenger, giving there teammates directions to there next kill. But this is bringing it to a whole new level.

This can really ruin a game. I can just think of so many scenario where people could use this in socom 2. I am not here to bitch about the new feature, but it just got me thinking. I really wanted this for a long time but didn't really thin about how dead people in a game could easily communicate with someone still alive.

I agree about the cheating aspect of this. Unfortunately its gonna happen. I remember when votes meant to turn around or there is someone behind you(Socom 2). We've all done this before. Now though its gonna get detailed. Messages are gonna pin point objectives. We as Socomers are just gonna have to adapt. I move around all the time when I play any shooter, so you texting an ingame message to someone aint gonna help you that much. Its gonna give you an unfair advatage, but good players are good players. This isnt gonna be that big of a deal . Its gonna feel like cheating at first, but after a couple months most people will adapt. Shit if everyone is doing it, its an even playing field.

LoLIn game xmb works for all ps3 titles. Its the in game music from your hard drive that the developers of the game have to code in.

Straight from the developers mouth........

I've seen people wondering if in-game messages via the XMB will lead to an unfair balance during gameplay. Being able to message your buddies with the XMB could allow you to report on enemy positions or let them know where you got killed.
I put some thought into it, and I don't agree. Let's say you die in a match due to a guy hiding behind a truck. You pull up the XMB, go to create a message, and select your friend from the list. You type out the message, most likely using your controller since I'm pretty sure most people don't keep a USB or Bluetooth® keyboard plugged into their PS3, and then send it to your friend. He gets the note that he's received the message, opens up his XMB, slides over to the messages tab, and opens your message. "He's behind the truck!" the message says.
How long do you figure that'll take? I'm seeing at least a minute, maybe two. A lot can happen in two minutes, not the least of which is a character moving out of their previous position or dying.
The question of in-game messaging being an unfair benefit during battle is a valid one, but I don't think it's going to be a real problem, or even an effective method of relaying info to your buddies. It'll take up too much time, and even then, that's without being accurate in your messages. You can't exactly type out a treatise on where to find the enemy in any reasonable amount of time. Plus, I've found that most people don't check their messages during gameplay, if only because it's gameplay in a fast-paced game. Taking a break to read love letters is just going to ensure that you don't even see who killed you.
I'm sure that people will try, but the joke will be on them as their losses rack up higher and higher.

its cheating..

i have my keyboard hooked up.. only takes 10 secs to open the message.. and i type fast as shit so i can have that thing sent within 30 seconds..

Its cheating but i don't really sit in the same place after i kill somebody...If i get u i might be near but not in the same exact spot..Never have prob on COD i always move cause of the kill cam BS...But i think it won't be an issue...People take games way to serious and ur not ever going to be able to fully stop cheating...Nextel's,Skype,Ect u get the point...So u gotta deal with it,If not one thing it's another...Fuck it just be the best and u don't have to worry...I think it's a dumb ass feature cause what else would it be used for...?

Everyone that has played socom has dealt with this for a while now. This has been going on with aim, skype, phone and any other way you can think of. Personally I dont think it will be that big of deal. We've dealt with it this long i dont think its gonna bother anyone now. Plus by the time anyone actually checks the message and gets back to the game i would think a good 45 seconds to a minute have gone by. So really im not too worried about it. Skype, telephone, and maybe aim are probably faster if they got a pc right by them.

2 minutes?..lol is he crazy and even if the guy isnt behind the truck u can give your team mate a general area of where the enemy is..

either way as long as there is no kill cam that follows the whole time like they been sayin... were good.. atleast skype wont be a problem.. for most situations.. i can see if the last guy runs ovr ur body and then u call him out.. but def. clears up a lot of cheating with no kill cam

ExXz
08-05-2008, 05:44 PM
yeah definitely no kill cam

M.TYSON

yo im a rusher but sometimes things do go weird and if its a war and im one of the last dudes left and if they got a lot of dudes left then im gonna camp and then i dont want the kill cam on. B/c if that shit happens again then you should be able to use the spot again.

ReaLesT
08-05-2008, 10:50 PM
Yea Def not me either...I do have my spots now....But i rush most of the time..90% of the time now i am silenced...but when i need to BeasT Mp5 just itself:werd:

tyson... did u read what i wrote u retard..lol

i said its good theres no kill cam cuz it prevents people from skyping u out... even if u move.. if people are on skype and the camera is following.. they know where u are.. i dont camp.. so keep that cod talk on your blue tooth

M.TYSON
08-06-2008, 05:45 AM
never said u camp nor was i talking about u asshole..lol i was talking about kill cam ingeneral and that it really only applies to campers, cause someone like me when i play i always run around so the kill cam doesnt effect me.. by the time i kill someone and the other person respawns im on the other side of the map

ScreaM
08-06-2008, 06:55 AM
oh i didnt realize that we all of sudden switched to call of duty...

respawns..lol

either way.. my point is:

ill deal with the ingame messaging because atleast we wont have to worry about skype (in socom) because the kill cam NO LONGER follows you for the whole time your alive

M.TYSON
08-06-2008, 12:25 PM
kill cam is in every game mode on there and i assumed since someone said kill cam that thats what they were taking about..either way kill cam or not doesnt effect me

ScreaM
08-06-2008, 12:39 PM
kill cam would effect u if u plan on rollin with us into confro.. a lot of nerds these days use skype in wars.. so if the camera would follow u around after u get a kill.. ud be screwed.. thats why we are happy it no longer has it in the new one..

M.TYSON
08-06-2008, 02:05 PM
since when does a kill cam follow u around for that long?.. is there somethoing i missed?.. i know the kill cam in cod4 for example only is about a 10 second clip if that

ScreaM
08-06-2008, 02:09 PM
once again.. SOCOM.. has always followed u the whole time.. unless u switch off or hit a button..

M.TYSON
08-06-2008, 02:41 PM
when has an enemy been able to follow u?. i dont get what youre saying.. give me an example on s2. if an enemy kills me all i remember is the camera panning back to the area where i was shot from not an actual kill cam like cod4

ScreaM
08-06-2008, 02:53 PM
either way its called a kill cam.. it moves with the guy as he runs around the map... so u still know where hes at after uve died...

and an enemy following u? huh..?

i was saying on skype which allows people to talk non stop like open mic on the ps3.. even after they die they can call out where the guy is that killed them if socoms camera stayed the same way..

M.TYSON
08-06-2008, 03:11 PM
once again.. SOCOM.. has always followed u the whole time.. unless u switch off or hit a button.. thats what u typed. ive never seen this all ive seen was when u get killed it flashes to the area where u were killed from.

well im right.. it will follow the guy around the map.. unless u hit a button.. thats why sometimes u hear people say "dont take ur screen off him" cuz it stays on them.. log on... try it out.. hasnt changed since the game came out silly goose

ExXz
08-06-2008, 03:47 PM
I dont know know if the camera follows you on socom 2 but i havent played it in a few years, but i do know that the camera stays on the guy that killed you the whole time until you move your joystick or push a button. Everything keeps changing. I think in socom one you could stay on your guy and move the camera all around. And then socom 2 they made it where you cant look all around but you see where the guy killed you from and then 3 and ca were the camera keeps track of the guy but once you move it off him you only have limited manuverability... idk i havent played 1 or 2 in years so i cant remember

in s2.. itll show from ur dead body wheres hes at.. and itll follow from ur dead body so ur basically jus facing his direction.. but when u know the maps its not hard to tell where someone is based off that
